This is a pretty outrageous statement: "The murders of Afghan civilians and high rates of suicide among the soldiers stationed there are believed to stem from the failure of Lewis-McChord’s doctors to adequately treat mental health problems." Believed by whom? The military acknowledges the two different very serious problems of suicide and illegal killings, and is working hard to address them. As to whether the causes are lack of treatment of mental health problems, that's pretty doubtful. Lack of sufficient and free community mental health services in the US is a general problem, but as to whether the lack causes suicide and murder is subject to much controversy and is doubtful, putting too much faith in mental health services. In reality, there are probably multiple causes.
