My friend, an Asian single mom of three is involved with a lawsuit with cheveron for discrimination, retaliation and so on. She got robbed during a night shift by two mask men in Sept. of 09. They took less than 8 dollars from the store, they got mad and hit her with a golf club and she got hurt really bad. They fired her the next for a bogus reason. They also fired her asian friend for being there during the robbbery, (her was bringing her lunch). Chevron is the second largest company in the usa but yet they treat their employees so bad. "A single mom of three, got robbed and hurt badly, then fired for nothing." This case is in deposition stage right now, so I cannot disclose detail information on it. But if anyone can help with suggestions, plz do so.

I have known John for a long time. I worked with him at Chevron's Agricultural Chemical labs, many years ago. NEVER have I heard him accuse anyone of racist comments. He is not the type to walk around pointing out that he is of Japanese descent and never gave the impression that he looks at himself as anything other than American.
I can't, in my wildest dreams, imagine John making something like this up.

You are all assuming that these allegations are true. I have known Alan Klaassen all my life (yes, the last names are the same, but spelled differently)and I don't for a moment believe that he did what he has been accused of doing. He is not and has never been that kind of person---far from it.

Trish, and anyone who has a suggestion about a person or organization that might write a letter supporting John Suzuki -- give me the information, including hopefully a name and contact info and I will try to contact them. You can send me the info at johnota@sbcglobal.net.

The Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance said they would be willing to write letters on my Dad's behalf. I'm not sure if you have contacted them yet. Their contact person would be Levin Sy who works for the Engineers and Scientist Union, Local 20. He is also on the Board of one of the APALA chapters in the Bay Area.

I am Mr. Suzuki's attorney. Mr. Suzuki is in the process of filing a complaint with the EEOC, so he is keeping all of his options open. Groups from around the country have been sending Chevron letters in support of Mr. Suzuki. Given Chevron's enormous ad campaign to portray it as a goody-two shoes company, I think Chevron is quite vulnerable to the charge of hypocrisy. That and the outrageousness of Chevron's conduct is why the letter writing campaign is taking place. As an attorney, I know that the legal process usually takes years and years. I'm hoping the letter writing can achieve positive results faster than litigation, but if not, litigation is an alternative.

Something unclear about this posting is whether Suzuki filed a discrimination complaint with the state or the federal government. If he did not, then he relied solely on an internal investigation. This was not a great idea. If he had filed with the EEOC, he could have gotten a "right to sue" letter and filed a suit in federal district court. Since I see no mention of this, I infer that he did not. Fighting out these issues through outrage expressed by advocacy groups is a valid tactic, but not an easy one where there is only one aggrieved person. To make the tactic work, it probably would be a good idea to find out if there is a class of people who have been treated in the same way that Suzuki alleges. If the same supervisor were involved in other untoward incidents, then the argument for disciplining him would be greater. Ex-employees and other Japanese-American employees could be contacted.
