Valarie: You just hit upon the essence of 9to5's paid sick days campaigns. We got paid sick days approved by a 70 percent vote in Milwaukee. But the implementation of the new ordinance has been held up by a legal challenge from the business lobby and by a judge's ruling regarding including using paid sick days to provide safe days for domestic violence victims. Meanwhile, 9to5 has appealed the judges ruling. And, we are supporting the Healthy Families Act, federal legislation that would guarantee paid sick days for every worker in the country. You have a compelling story. Would love to talk to you voice to voice. You can always reach me in 9to5's Denver office.

Paid sick leave is so important, especially for women with school age children. Far too often, women are forced to send their sick children to school or day care, because their employer will not give them a paid sick day to take care of their child. This puts stress on the working mother because she is worrying about her child, and passes the illness to others in the child's class. No mother should be forced to choose between paid work and a sick child...the child should come first.
